Why Is It Time for the National Assembly to Consider the Urgent Removal of Minister Đào Hồng Lan?

Speaking at the recent conference to disseminate and implement the Resolution of the Fourth Plenum of the 14th Central Committee, General Secretary and President Tô Lâm issued a landmark and decisive directive regarding personnel management.

According to the head of the Communist Party of Vietnam, officials who fail to meet task requirements, lack competence, or have lost public trust must be promptly reviewed and replaced—without waiting for the end of their term or for disciplinary violations to occur.

This decision immediately drew public attention to the hidden, troubling corners of the state apparatus, particularly in the healthcare sector—a field directly linked to human lives and the survival of the nation.

According to observers and experts, healthcare is not a purely administrative field. It is a specialized field that demands absolute precision, extensive professional knowledge, and a thorough understanding of medical science.

Appointing an individual with absolutely no medical background, such as Ms. Dao Hong Lan, to the high-pressure position of Minister of Health has long created an extremely dangerous void. This has caused policy-making to repeatedly find itself at a loss when faced with critical issues in the healthcare sector.

This knowledge gap not only slows the sector’s development but also directly gives rise to misguided policies that harbor the seeds of extremely serious risks.

Evidence of this lack of professional vision is the shocking proposal in the recent Draft Law on Organ Donation (Amendment), which advocates expanding the eligibility for organ donation to include children under 18 years of age.

According to experts, this is not merely a direct affront to social conscience and ethics. After all, children possess innocent and pure souls, and—most importantly—they are not yet physically or legally mature enough to make decisions regarding their own bodily fate.

The fact that the Minister of Health has proposed a regulation that carries the risk of legitimizing organ harvesting from minors—regardless of any humanitarian justification—constitutes a serious violation of international standards for child protection and national ethical principles.

Meanwhile, the line between a child’s innocent consent and the commercial traps set by networks exploiting the trade in human organs is extremely tenuous.

A Minister of Health with true vision and moral sensitivity would never dare to push the nation’s young generation into that dangerous legal gray area.

Moreover, the consequences of such misguided management thinking extend far beyond merely controversial policy proposals. It directly erodes the fragile trust that millions of Vietnamese families place in the state healthcare system.

Public opinion holds that the country is by no means lacking in intellectuals, talented doctors, and medical experts—individuals with exemplary medical ethics and extensive practical experience on the front lines of treating the entire population.

What society needs right now is for the National Assembly to heed the urgent cries for help from the people and initiate the process of urgently removing Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan from office in accordance with the law.

This decision to replace her is not a personal matter, but an essential requirement to restore order and the rule of law, ensure the absolute safety of children, and restore the inherent dignity of a medical system that truly serves the people.

A new era has no place for tolerance of incompetent leaders; instead, it must make room for those with professional expertise and the leadership caliber necessary to manage the nation, so they can assume the critical role of Minister of Health and restore public confidence throughout society.
